Course Texts

There are two required texts for this course:

1. Henretta, James, David Brody, and Lynn Dumenil, eds. America: A Concise History. 3rd ed. Vol. 1. Boston: Bedford St. Martins, 2006.

This textbook is available through the KU Bookstores for $30 (used). It is also available through online retailers like amazon.com; however, if you order it online you may need to pay for rush shipping so your copy will get here before the beginning of classes. And be sure that you order the correct volume and edition. The online study guide for this text can be found here.

2. Coursepak of primary source documents (approx. cost $40) available for purchase online at the University Readers site. The text will be shipped to the address of your choice. This textbook is not available in the bookstores. Order it as soon as possible; I have hard copies of the first full week’s readings since you most likely won’t have your coursepak by that date, but as of Week #3 I won’t be providing copies of the readings.
